This section of the site is written exclusively for
residents of the Big Canoe community. Its not likely to have
much relevance to other visitors to this website, but you are free to
surf it if you like.
As a community focused on celebrating and preserving
the wonders of our natural setting, it is fitting that we should also
acknowledge the larger setting of our world... the universe!
I offer several paths to aid the casual observer, the
budding astronomer, or just the interested party:
-
The FAQs (Frequently
Asked Questions) section is a series of questions I am often asked,
or I have asked myself, concerning amateur astronomy and the sky.
They may be practical questions concerning the hobby or theoretical
science. These are my opinions and my understanding. I will attempt
to be as factual as I can, but I am neither a professional astronomer
nor a scientist. Mea culpa.
-
The Observing
Calendar section
is monthly narratives of observational events that may be seen from
Big Canoe. Priority is given to the eastern horizon since objects
will appear there first. Prior months calendars may be used to
follow objects as they move to the western horizon. From time to time
other topics of interest may be mentioned, such as observing hints or
other interesting findings I have picked up from the literature.
-
The Reference
section is a collection of commercial and literary references that I
think may be of interest to those following this site. It is by no
means comprehensive and is not offered as a recommended list for any
purpose other than representing some of the sources that I have found useful.
